Why RestroBuddy
Modern restaurant software. Without giving up control.
RestroBuddy combines a POS, payroll, and inventory system built around one idea: your restaurant should be able to run — and keep running — without handing every part of that decision to someone else's server.
One restaurant, one connected system
Not just another cloud POS
Three priorities shape every product decision we make.
Data ownership
Your restaurant's data belongs with your restaurant
RestroBuddy POS is built local-first: your day-to-day operational data — orders, customers, menu, and staff records — is stored and processed on the PC in your restaurant, not routed through a third party as a precondition for taking an order. Remote access and an optional cloud sales-summary sync for the Owner app exist as opt-in extras on top of that, never as a requirement underneath it.
Reliability
When the internet goes down, dinner service shouldn't
Reception, Captain, and the Kitchen board talk to each other and to your local database over your restaurant's own network. An internet outage doesn't stop an order, a KOT print, or a bill from going through. Remote access (over a secure tunnel) and the Owner app's optional cloud sync are additive features on top of that core — if the internet is down, those specific extras pause; the floor keeps running.
Backups
Backups shouldn't mean giving someone else the keys
RestroBuddy POS takes hourly snapshots (kept 24 hours) plus a nightly backup (kept 30 days), with a recovery key involved in restoring them — so getting your data back doesn't depend on any one machine surviving, and doesn't depend on handing your whole database to a third party either.
Hourly snapshots (24h) + nightly backups (30 days) — a recovery key is involved in restoring them.
Financial integrity
Your numbers should agree — everywhere
One transaction, one consistent story from the order to the report.
One ecosystem
Built around the restaurant — not a generic business
Three products, three jobs, one connected system.
One vendor, three products
Owner app
Remote visibility when you need it. Local operation when you don't.
The Owner app gives read-only monitoring — dashboard, live activity, invoices, reports, and trends — reachable over your restaurant's LAN, or from anywhere via an optional secure tunnel. It reconnects automatically if your restaurant's network address changes, and it never places orders or edits your menu. It sits on top of RestroBuddy POS as an additive layer — the floor doesn't depend on it being reachable.
Security & privacy
Designed with less unnecessary exposure
Different architecture. Different priorities.
A general comparison of local-first suites like RestroBuddy against typical cloud-first restaurant platforms — not a claim about any specific product.
| Consideration | RestroBuddy | Cloud-first platforms |
|---|---|---|
| Local-first operation | Core workflows run on your own restaurant PC | Core workflows depend on a remote server |
| Continuous internet required | Not required to take orders or bill | Typically required for day-to-day use |
| Restaurant-owned local data | Operational database lives on-site | Data primarily lives on vendor infrastructure |
| Optional cloud connectivity | Opt-in remote access & owner-app sync | Cloud connectivity is the default mode |
| Local POS & kitchen workflows | Reception, Captain, Kitchen over LAN | Varies by platform |
| Integrated payroll | RestroBuddy Payroll built into the same suite | Usually a separate product |
| Integrated inventory | RestroBuddy Inventory built into the same suite | Usually a separate product |
| Encrypted backups | Hourly + nightly, recovery-key restore | Varies by platform |
| Remote access | Available, additive — never required | Built-in, and often mandatory |
A question worth asking
Who controls your restaurant's data?
For a lot of restaurant software, the answer is: whoever runs the servers it depends on. RestroBuddy starts from a different premise — your day-to-day operational data lives on a PC inside your own restaurant, and the features that leave that machine (remote access, optional cloud sync) are things you switch on, not things you're defaulted into.
